WETLAND MITIGATION / STREAM-BANK STABILIZATION |
Wetland Mitigation and Stream-bank stabilization projects are becoming more prevalent in today's construction industry due to new regulations regarding wetland disturbance associated with construction projects. This job was completed by us in September of 2007. The job, in Andover Maine, was a combined stream-bank stabilization and wetland planting project. The before pictures clearly show how the force of the Ellis River had carved out a large piece of cow pasture. |
|
 | Firstly, Gordon Landscape and Hydroseed had to replace all of the lost material to bring the stream bank to its original location pre flood. After placing over 4,000 cubic yards of material, we installed a geotextile fabric layer, and covered it with 1 foot of gravel. |
We then hauled in large boulders, called "rip-rap", which we put down on the stream bank. The rip-rap was put 3 feet deep, to eliminate the possibility of being undermined by the water's force. | |
 | We then vegetated the top of the slope with "live stakes" which are wetland plant cuttings, as well as thousands of other wetland trees and shrubs to hold the soil and eventually vegetate the entire area. Maine D.O.T was the owner of the project and they were extremely pleased with the finished product that Gordon Landscape and Hydroseed left them with. |
